Hannah, do email Mary or Jean, they are still around and would love to hear from you.......and will certainly be able to fill you in on what has happened to upset this forum so much Hope you're doing ok, love Lxx

Hey NO, why shouldn't you know what went on? We all belong on here and should be allowed to keep others up to date:

Someone made complaints .......................on a different site .............about the lack of support he/she received from NRAS Forum members .
Jean posted a very polite and careful request , asking that members would be wary of doing this, as new or potential NRAS members could be put off by an apparent lack of care on the forum, (which inevitably would have reflected on NRAS itself.)
Naturally several people responded; some had also seen the complaints (which the author denied making) and were concerned for the integrity of NRAS as a support organisation.
A new lady (a forum moderator called Sally) at NRAS then removed the post, and Jean was suspended for posting inappropriately. She later resigned from NRAS; Mary got caught up in all this, and has chosen to leave NRAS too.
I'm sorry if this offends Sally, but as members you DO have a right to know, though of course you can contact NRAS to verify what I have said at any time. Lxx

thanks for this info lylie- though why anyone should complain about the lack of support is a mystery to me- I've always found the opposite to be true!

glad to see the humour's being continued though!!!

Maria and Rose...............thats what we all thought, lovely supportive people, lots of fun and love on here, and sticking up for NRAS too!!!It's been such a shame this has happened. Even though Ailsa actually overturned Jean's suspension, Jean was so angry at being treated like a naughty child that she felt it was better that she left the forum.

Hello,

Last week I got fed up with all this and decided to contact Moderator 1 for an explaination of their actions. I said that having worked in a customer focused enviroment the only things we were told to avoid talking to people about were sex, religion, politics and race. Everything else was acceptable. Moderator 1 agreed with me but said that members had to be protected from cyber bullying at which point I completely lost the plot as I cannot work out how you can be cyber bullied and asked that if people were offended by a topic had they not heard of the off button and suggested that they stay away from that topic.

However it seems we need to be protected from ourselves and although I pointed out that most of us did not grow up in a nanny state moderator 1 seems to think we cannot be trusted to moderate ourselves and I wonder if she thinks that because we have RA our brains are affected as well.

This will probably be moderated and removed but who cares.

Surely if anyone thought they weren't receiving support on this forum they would either shut up and put up, or quit?? Confused

In response to the posts on this thread, I think it is important to highlight the importance of moderation.
Any organisation that provides an online facility, such as this forum, has a duty of care to its users, to ensure they are protected from the potential misuse that can occur. This can manifest in many different ways, such as forum posts, emails, etc, and can be of a very upsetting nature.
Moderation may not be what everyone thinks is required, but it is something that NRAS are obliged to do, and has done for years.
NRAS feel that they do not need to get involved in all threads, and will only take action if necessary, but rest assured, will always moderate, and make appropriate steps in the interest and wellbeing of their members.
Moderation has now been made more visible recently, at the request of several users.

All moderation queries currently need to be addressed to: membership@nras.org.uk.

Thanks

Moderator1

must agree, it does look like the Moderator thinks we are indeed mindless because we have RA !
As for the importance of Moderating, well.............I've been on here for two years now, and we have NEVER experienced anything like this....................and there have been a number of posts (including the one from that man someone mentioned earlier, who appeared to be advocating we should all turn to "other drugs" (!!!!!!) to get control of our illness) that were considered by many to be risque and even inflammatory............but he was permitted to stay on here, and eventually got the message because we all ignored him. Where was the moderation than? And WHY the sudden heavy handed approach from a comparative stranger .............who has still allowed the perpetrator of the original issue to continue posting, when the criticism of NRAS compromised its integrity so badly? I do not understand this at all. L

ps it seems Mary is banned until 2012!!!!!!!

pps Tabbycat..what a pity the person responsible didn't put up or shut up!!! We can only hope!!!!

Hi Moderator,

I agree with Lylie.
We do know that all forums are moderated but instead of getting us on your side you are annoying everyone with your unfriendly attitude and the assumption that we do not need to know your name, etc, as long as you can lay down the law to us.
Other forums have friendly moderators and with that attitude their decisions are always respected by forum members.

Doreen .
